Hate Crimes and How to Fight Them
Introduction
Over the past two years, hate crimes have become more common. This is why this issue is very acute nowadays and needs to be abolished. The following essay will refer to this atrocity and what can be done to combat them. I have chosen this topic due to the severity of this problem. For the text, I have referenced an article about hate crimes. The measures that can be taken against hate may later contribute to the creation of a better society and enhanced accountability for such atrocious behavior.
Hate Crimes
This issue has been notorious in the way it affects society and the groups being targeted. As stated by Attorney General Merrick B. Garland, this kind of events results in a singular impact due to the way it terrifies and frightens entire communities (Johnson, 2022). However, due to his belief that this kind of atrocity needs to be abolished, Garland promises that the Justice Department will use every single resource to combat such cases and confront the aggressors. This may trigger a promising start to tackling the issue.
As mentioned earlier, the number of hate crimes being committed has risen tremendously. According to the FBI, 2020 has marked an increase in discrimination and bigotry towards Asian and African Americans (Johnson, 2022). Although the Justice Department has successfully held over 30 defendants accountable, most of such crimes stay unreported. Such a factor leads to people and authorities wondering what measures can be taken to fight the problem.
Fortunately, there are some measures that can be taken to abolish this issue. For example, there can be more resources created for non-English speaking people and those with limited Internet access (Johnson, 2022). It is advisable to make social media platforms to confront the hateful content on their sites; as such cases tend to be unnoticed. Finally, police reform may assist with decreasing the amount of hate crimes caused by police brutality. This may guarantee a rather promising future and a more accepting society.
Conclusion
In conclusion, hate crimes have increased in the recent years. This should become ground for people and organizations to take action. Some of the measures that can be taken involve reporting hateful content on social media, demanding police reform and create resources for non-English speaking people and those with poor Internet access. This could further promote the need for accountability, thus creating a more accepting society and decreasing such cases.
