Fargo, the city in North Dakota, has experienced an increased rate of crimes in the past several years. The police and investigators try to discover the factors that cause such a problem and find ways to solve it. Some of the residents are concerned about the problem, but some of them remain calm and confident in the city’s safety. There are several assumptions, that the reason for the issue is the city’s population growth, drug overconsumption, and poverty. Any situation happens by means of many factors coinciding and influencing it. The increased crime rates in Fargo are not an exception. For instance, the police address the issue of the citizens’ high level of alcohol consumption (Walling, 2022). Some cases of alcohol intoxication end up in aggressive behavior, which may lead to a crime. The police assume that one of the reasons for such increased rates may be drug problems in the population (Schroeer, 2016). Furthermore, Zibolski states, that the three major problems of the city in regard to alcohol are overconsumption, underage drinking, and uncontrollable behavior in drunk people (Walling, 2022). Thus, the high level of consuming alcohol is one of the reasons for the increased crime rates.
Moreover, the other factor that contributed to the rates is Fargo’s population growth. The number of people who live in a city and the number of crimes are positively correlated. The city has grown by 28% between 2000 and 2013, which is a considerable number (World Population Review, 2022). Additionally, in the smaller town, it is hard to hide, everyone knows everyone, and being invisible becomes impossible. However, the bigger city, the higher chance of remaining unseen. Using these methods could also help evaluate different solutions and explore what would alleviate the problem. It is crucial to keep in mind that data is key in solving any problem. To take action to alleviate the crime rates it is rational to make decisions according to the main factors that contribute to them. Although the police claim that they cannot lower the rates significantly, it is possible to decrease the number of crimes.
