Equal Pay and Pay Discrimination
Even though equality is valued today, pay discrimination can still be found. The article “Equal Pay Claims: Mediation and Settlement Practice Tips” by Angela Reddock-Wright focuses on this legal issue and offers useful comments. In the beginning, the author covers the history of equal pay legislation and focuses on the Equal Pay Act of 1963, the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act of 2009 (Reddock-Wright, 2022). However, the article explains that these legal documents are insufficient to eliminate the problem, and the number of pay discrimination cases is high. That is why the author relies on her professional experience and offers practical recommendations for attorneys representing employees or employers to deal with equal pay cases (Reddock-Wright, 2022). Consequently, these stakeholders can use the given article as a guideline to succeed in court.
I chose this article because I believe that equal pay is a significant issue in the present world. Since democracy and equality are significant values, it is necessary to ensure that they are present in all life spheres. However, pay discrimination cases to demonstrate that some issues exist, and it is necessary to address this state of affairs. I agree with the author that pays discrimination is a critical topic today because I am familiar with a few cases when women received smaller salaries because of their gender. That is why it seems that Reddock-Wright’s article is helpful for ordinary people and attorneys. On the one hand, the general audience can find it useful to recollect equal pay legislation in the United States. On the other hand, legal professionals can obtain specific advice on how they can prove their points in court. That is why it is challenging to overestimate the significance of the article under review.
