To enhance the living conditions in Little Rock by collaborating with the community to fight crime, uphold the law, maintain the peace, and ensure a secure environment by defending people’s freedom while decreasing fear, combating violence, and enforcing the law is crucial.
On their own, prosecutors and police cannot solve crimes or convict offenders. People in the community who have the information must come forward, and those working in the criminal justice system must create a setting where witnesses can do so safely and comfortably. Thus, the paper aims to discuss primary and secondary prevention activities in Downtown Little Rock, Arkansas.
Through proactive policing methods, the Crime Prevention Unit strives to foster and encourage good community connections and interaction. The community has five main activities for crime prevention in the town. It creates new initiatives, organizes community gatherings, and serves as a liaison for neighborhood organizations. Additionally, it organizes special events to promote and strengthen community ties, empowers residents with self-defense skills, and educates people about preventative methods (Comprehensive violence reduction, n.d.). This is necessary because law enforcement organizations can better regulate crime with public support and involvement.
One of the secondary activities is a community watch program and relationships with businesses and groups. A presentation of the neighborhood watch program in virtual form is part of community partnerships. By gathering information for investigations, video surveillance aids law enforcement and discourages crime. A law requires video security cameras at specific companies, including convenience stores, bars, clubs, special event venues, and other places operating late at night (Comprehensive violence reduction, n.d.). These companies will set up security cameras in specific store areas and parking lots. It is beneficial for criminal investigations to allow more easily to find the offender or even prevent the crime.
Secondly, domestic abuse is a huge factor affecting the area’s crime level. While aggression between partners or parents and children is not always covered in the media, it is essentially a question of life and death situations for individuals caught up in it. It is necessary to do everything possible to stop domestic violence as the city intensifies its efforts to prevent gun crimes committed by organized gangs of criminals. There is a strong emphasis on victim support, and special forms are handed to victims in every domestic violence incident. Whether or not an arrest is made, documents are sent to specialized departments for further investigation (Comprehensive violence reduction, n.d.). It is crucial for preventing crimes and caring about victims if the incident happens.
Finally, Little Rock will continue collaborating with the state’s attorney on domestic abuse prosecutions backed up by evidence as part of this initiative. In rare circumstances, the city will assist the county prosecutor in seeking domestic violence prosecutions using corroborating evidence rather than witness testimony (Comprehensive violence reduction, n.d.). This is important since prosecutors can spare victims the hardship of testifying against their spouses by using neighbor reports, medical data, emergency personnel calls, and defendant statements.
