Violence against Women: Article Summary and Reflection

Despite measures taken to prevent instances of violence against women (VAW), instances of women being victims of male aggression remain disturbingly high. Therefore, further efforts must be geared toward introducing preventive measures and identifying emergent threats. In her article “Situating Institutional Responses to Latina Intimate Partner Violence Victims: An Argument for a LatCrit Lens,” da Garza emphasizes the prevalence of VAW in the Latino community, insisting that appropriate interventions must be introduced to manage the described concern. By outlining the nature of the observed issue, the author processes the importance of an institutional set of measures aimed at addressing the VAW issue in the Latino community, thus offering a viable solution.

The article delves into the topic of violence against women, it the close focus on the Latino community in particular. According to da Garza (2021), even though there has been a positive shit in the approach toward VAW cases, the persistence of inadequacies in the management of the described problem prevents state authorities from handling the cases appropriately to pursue justice for women. Specifically, da Garza (2021) claims that the recent shift toward a women-oriented approach has contributed to massive and noticeable improvements, yet the continuous inconsistencies in its implementation still cause problems in identifying and managing VAW cases. Particularly, da Garza (2021) clarifies that intimate partner violence (IPV) represents a major concern and continues to be mismanaged as well as underreported.

According to the research results, the integration of the LatCrit lens as the means of viewing VAW through the perspective of cultural issues should be recognized as a valid approach. With the use of LatCrit-base strategies, the phenomenon of VAW will be contained and addressed accordingly by shaping the cultural perspectives on the role of women in the Latin American community. Representing a culturally adjusted version of the Critical race Theory, the LatCrit perspective helps shape the scope of the study and frame the problem in the light that leads to a more accurate identification of the underlying issues. Therefore, the introduction of the LatCrit theory serves as an essential contribution to the analysis.

Likewise, the integration of the qualitative research methodology allows for obtaining a broad variety of data, including personal evidence. The use of descriptive statistics and the review of the available resources helps promote a proper understanding of the issue. Moreover, the specified approach proves that skewed interpretations of gender roles as the relic of sex stereotypes and the related relics persisting in the present-day Latin American culture serve as the basis for the increase in VAW rates. Supporting the specified assumptions, the findings point to the need to adjust the existing strategies toward introducing appropriate policies into the present-day criminal justice standards. Thus, the study creates future implications for building a profound study on the design of measures for supporting omen and preventing VAW in the Latino community, which makes this article significant for addressing Latin American Women’s needs.

With the focus on the nature of VAW in the Latino community, da Garza establishes the significance and scale of the problem while also pointing to the possible solutions to the issue. Therefore, the article has profound significance and value for the management of VAW, particularly its prevention and eradication from the Latino community. As soon as the core factor shaping the development of aggressive behaviors toward women in the Latino community is identified, fighting the problem will become significantly easier.
