The Role of Restorative Justice in Education: A Critical Analysis

Introduction

The education sector is one of the most developed spheres in human life, and it is important to continue introducing new techniques to improve student performance worldwide. Gonzalez et al. (2018) stated that restorative justice combines all effective interventions that increase the level of studying outcomes. At the same time, Kobli et al. (2019) paid more attention to harm protection through restorative justice and cooperative processing. The writers have presented more evidence-based research about restorative justice using real case studies.

Article Analysis

One of the key points made by the researchers is related to the idea that the implementation of the whole-school systems of restorative approaches at Alliance had many stages. From 2000 to 2011, it became important to set collaborative relationships (Gonzalez et al., 2018). Additionally, the facilitation of classrooms was taken under serious consideration to make the education process comfortable for workers and students. I have learned the importance of gradual development in education for this study. New changes and improvements cannot be implemented immediately, and it is crucial to monitor every step.

Moreover, communication inside educational institutions should not be neglected as a school’s success depends on the community, which boosts a restorative approach. The most interesting factor was connected to the needs of stakeholders. Staff and students were obligated to participate in decision-making regarding the performance of the school (Gonzalez et al., 2018). This information became relevant to me as I understood the structure of the whole school system and its success through developing relevant skills and values.

The history of restorative justice can be described from different perspectives. For example, Kohli et al. (2019) showed that one group of students believe that the concept of RJ is relatively new, while others consider that it was used by indigenous societies many years ago. However, the authors are paying more attention to the modern explanation of the practice. The experiment of Kitchener was evaluated to understand the specification of restorative justice, and it was found that the concept appeared when the level of vandalism among teenagers started rising in Canada (Kohli et al., 2019). Furthermore, the restorative justice process effectively influenced the behavior and attitude of all school parties.

I have learned from the article about the importance of the mood of workers and students. Restorative justice allows people to stay in one friendly community and reflect on negative actions from the surroundings to minimize the influence. Interestingly, the well-defined RJ technique increases the sense of belongingness and healing in those who may suffer from bullying. Even though some people might stay against the concept and pay more attention to the professional knowledge of workers, I consider that behavior and self-control are also crucial aspects that build the environment and progress of students.

Conclusion

In conclusion, restorative justice is relevant to me from the provided communication perspective as it is easier for me to study in a positive atmosphere. Additionally, I can stay more motivated when teachers are supportive and responsive.
