Prison Culture, Redemption, and Rehabilitation in The Shawshank Redemption
Introduction
The drama movie The Shawshank Redemption was released in 1994 in the United States, based on the 1982 Stephen King novella. The Shawshank Redemption is a prison-break story, a fairy tale of imprisonment and emancipation in which an abused prisoner overcomes terrible adversity by running away into dreams of movies – literally and figuratively (King, 2020).
