Crime Cases: Aileen Wuornos and Robert Morales
The case of Serial Killer Aileen Wuornos describes the crime of a mentally ill person who, since childhood, was subjected to cruelty by elders, which had a detrimental effect on the psyche. Wuornos was a serial killer and was also caught for vandalism, petty robberies, and other offenses (Crime Investigation, 2022). The main crimes she committed were the murders of people for which she received a death sentence and was deprived of her life after serving a prison term. She managed to escape the death penalty several times, but Wuornos received a lethal injection for her crimes. The FBI is looking for criminals who have committed such crimes and who are obliged to be punished and one of these criminals is Robert Morales (FBI). Although both cases are similar in their severity, they still have some noticeable differences.
Robert Morales is wanted for the murders of three people, which is also a series of murders and needs strict punishment. He killed a man who was standing at a bus stop waiting for a bus, then shot a member of the group and his girlfriend. Morales is a member of a criminal gang, and in his past, there was a lengthy criminal history in which attacks on people, burglaries, violence, and other terrible crimes took place (FBI). There is not enough information about his past, but Morales probably did not have an excellent example of behavior since childhood, and his psyche was also disturbed as a result of any incidents.
The similarity between the two cases is that the criminals committed serial murders of people. In addition, both criminals have many crimes besides murders, which also cause serious harm to other people. Wuornos has a criminal history of robberies and mistreatment of people, as well as Morales, who is accused of domestic violence and a number of illegal break-ins and theft. Moreover, both criminals work in a group with other offenders, which also makes both cases similar to each other.
The difference between the cases is that Wuornos has an extensive series of crimes on her account, while Morales has only three. Furthermore, the difference between the criminals is that Wuornos chose prostitution as her main activity, while Morales was engaged in drug distribution (FBI). Wuornos was looking for accomplices to work with as a couple, and Morales had a big group of criminals like him. Despite these differences, both criminals took people’s lives, and therefore, they should be held accountable and punished.
According to the situational theory, it can be concluded that both offenders had a potential negative impact on their childhood. Being a little Wuornos was abused and never found out what a real family and care can be (Crime Investigation, 2022). In the end, it had a detrimental effect on her, and her life changed forever. In Morales’ case, the life story is unknown, but there is a high probability that he was also not a beloved child and was deprived of family and care. That is, the basis of the criminal behavior of both people is psychological deviations.
In conclusion, the cases of criminals Aileen Wuornos and Robert Morales show a series of murders, as well as other crimes that have had negative consequences for people. The similarity of the cases lies in the fact that both criminals took the life of more than one person and robbed and violated the law. The difference is that Wuornos killed significantly more people than Morales and engaged in prostitution, unlike Morales, who was involved in drug distribution.
