Aspects of the U.S. Constitution
Introduction
The U.S. Constitution is a progressive document that has supported the political and economic growth of the country for more than two centuries. The processes associated with its development and passage encountered numerous conflicts. From a personal perspective, the most challenging issue was that of the bill of rights.
Discussion
The drafted Constitution failed to provide room for such an important section. The decision to include a bill of rights chapter could have empowered and provided liberties to the greatest number of Americans. The section would have equipped U.S. citizens with privileges that the government could not violate. Unfortunately, the defeat of George Mason’s motion resulted in the passage of a Constitution without a bill of rights. The resolution of this conflict could have supported the constitutional rights of all citizens, thereby making it possible for the country to solve the problematic issues of slavery and racial discrimination.
Being a delegate to the Constitutional Convention, I would have taken a stand on the bill of rights and ensure that such an important chapter was included in the U.S. Constitution. Such a position would have triggered additional debates and voting processes among the delegates. I would have gone further to describe that such a clause was common in different State Constitutions. Consequently, the country would have benefited significantly from the chapter of bill of rights and present additional approaches for preventing all violations against different all citizens. The resolution to take a position on this issue would have presented proper ideas for addressing other conflicts encountered at the time, including the problem of slavery.
Conclusion
The inclusion of a bill of rights would have entitled Americans by prohibiting the U.S. government from committing atrocities or crimes against them. These arguments, therefore, explain why future amendments focused on the introduction of a bill of rights in the Constitution.
